Blues Cats were the first rock and roll band in Pictou County who came together in late 1957, early1958 and were one of the first bands to have black and white musicians on the same stage. They played their first gig at the IOOF hall in Stellarton in early 1958. The band went on to play all over the Maritimes and in to Quebec and Newfoundland. They were regular guests on the PEI TV show Teen Hop. Their uniforms were white sports coats, white buck shoes and black pants. Because of their popularity five fan clubs were formed around the Maritimes.

The end of the band started in September 1960 when George joined the RCMP. After Christmas of that year the band was done. Borden joined the army, O’Haggen worked with the ambulance in Halifax, Ferguson returned to his old job as a window-dresser at Goodman’s and Haggart formed a country duo with his brother Don.

Blue Cats reunited for a gig at the New Glasgow Stadium in 1999.
